Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week

November 12-19, 2012

This annual event held the first full week prior to Thanksgiving is dedicated to bringing awareness to CJ about hunger and homelessness issues in the local community, nation and world. All members of the school community are encouraged to choose at least one way to become involved in the plight of others who need our help.

The collection taken each day during first period is to benefit the Oxfam and Catholic Relief Services (international hunger relief organizations). Food donations and personal hygiene items are collected each day during first period to benefit St. Vincent Hotel, Catholic Social Services Food Pantry, The FoodBank, and the YWCA Shelter.

Lenten Mission Drive

The money collected during last year's Lenten Mission Drive was divided between the Marianists and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur missionary projects. Each classroom receives alms collection containers to fill throughout Lent. Other Lenten fund-raising activities for the missions are the annual Faculty vs. Students basketball game, jeans day and school raffle.

The money we donated can help the missions with job training, education, nutrition programs for AIDS orphans, village agricultural development, secondary education for the poor and education and training for single mothers. It can also provide support towards making wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes and ramps. It can also support mental health services and physical therapy.
