CJ Wrestlers Focused as Feature Team

Eagle grapplers got off to a great start as the feature team of the week Monday, Jan. 23, trouncing opponents National Trail and Fairborn in a Senior Night tri-meet.

Looking ahead, the team hopes to keep its momentum high entering the Eaton Invitational this weekend and through next month’s end-of-season tournaments. Divisional duals begin February 4, with the league and sectional tournaments held during the weekends that follow.

Popularity of Eagle Swim Team Soaring

Since fall 2010 when the Feature Team initiative was first introduced, members of the Spirit Committee have been highlighting CJ sports teams throughout all three athletic seasons, and their efforts to build school-wide support for Eagle student-athletes officially resumed during the week of January 17-21.

The committee has had its hands full hanging locker signs and organizing lunch-time appreciations for members of the men’s and women’s swim team this week due to the growing number of Eagle swimmers in 2012. Participants have increased by 30 percent since last season.

Softball Team Spreads Christmas Cheer

Members of the CJ softball team spent Saturday, Dec. 3 serving youngsters of all ages at the Pancakes with Prancer community event hosted by the City of Moraine.

Eagle volunteers were in charge of leading arts and crafts activities during the event, which is aimed at raising money for the city’s Christmas Smiles Program. The program provides food and gifts for needy families from Moraine.

Dee Bowling, head coach, said the girls had a great time interacting with the children and taking a team photo with Santa and his reindeer, Prancer.

John Staley Signs with NKU

Eagles fans will not have too far to travel to watch basketball standout John Staley compete at the collegiate level one year from now.

After verbally committing to Northern Kentucky University in September, the CJ senior made it official on Thursday, Nov. 10, signing his National Letter of Intent to join the Norse next season.

“It feels great to sign with NKU,” Staley said. “I have played basketball all my life because I love the game, so it’s just a bonus to be able play for four more years and get my college education.”

Long Signs to Play Basketball at Vandy

Less than 16 hours into the official opening of the high school signing period Wednesday, Nov. 9, Chaminade Julienne senior Raytea Long inked her National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Commodores of Vanderbilt University.

As part of her commitment, Long will receive a full athletic grant to cover all tuition costs at the university located in Tennessee’s capital city, where she plans to study chemical engineering.

“Vanderbilt was just a perfect fit for me. The location, the academics, and the basketball program all felt right,” Long said.
