Senior Capstone: Body Image

In today’s world, only 11% of girls world-wide feel comfortable using the word “beautiful” to describe themselves. To combat this lack of positive body image, four courageous CJ seniors are using their Senior Capstone project to inspire freshmen girls to be confident in their own beauty.

Seniors Taylor Banks, Gretchen Theil, Kayla Lamantia, and Sarah Downing chose this topic because it is close to their hearts.

“It’s an issue that’s near and dear to us,” said Banks. “We’ve all had issues with body confidence."

Sister Dorothy Lives!

Today, the entire CJ community gathered in prayer and reflection on the 10th anniversary of Sr. Dorothy Stang's, SNDdeN '49 martydom. Hymns, readings and general intercessions were based on the beatitudes, hallmarks of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, and the example of Sr. Dorothy. We are reminded that we are called to serve, come together in community, and act on behalf of justice and peace in our world.

March for Life 2015

On Wednesday, January 21, 54 CJ students joined a group of Carroll students on a bus headed towards Washington, D.C. A passion for the pro-life movement ready to be exercised in the 42nd National March for Life brought these young men and women together.

CSW 2015

As a Catholic School, CJ will join in the national and local celebration of Catholic Schools Week, taking the opportunity to reflect on the gifts such a heritage provides. Events will include Founder’s Trivia, 3:00 p.m. prayer with Alter, Carroll, and Fenwick, reflections by faculty and students on their CJ experience, and more.

Catholic schools were pioneered by vowed religious and religious congregations across the country. At Chaminade Julienne, we can thank the the school's sponsoring orders for shaping the mission of Chaminade Julienne, a strong tradition we enjoy today.

CJ, Rosary Support Students

Through their Senior Capstone project, three students are helping pre-teens strengthen internal relationships between mind and body. By addressing how social media can distort reality, Angela Ekezie, Kweisi Beaty, and Yaritza Cardanas help 7th and 8th grade female students at Our Lady of Rosary develop an awareness of the false images media can provide.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Caroling members of FLIGHT (Faith Leaders in God's Hands Today) wished residents at the Sanctuary at Wilmington Place a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The upperclassmen spent an hour singing holiday favorites (video) at the assisted living facility located  2.5 miles southeast of school. Students volunteered during the late-start time (8 to 9:37 a.m.) one block Wednesday morning before Christmas break.

Family Hosts Christmas Shoebox Party

Christmas is a time for giving gifts to loved ones, but for one Chaminade Julienne family, the giving begins in November and benefits children around the world.

Each November, Clara Mussin Phillips and Noah Mussin Phillips (pictured right), both members of the class of 2017, along with their parents, Mark Phillips and Liz Mussin, host their annual, Operation Christmas Child "Shoebox Party.” They gather friends for a meal and ask guests to bring two things: a toy and a shoebox.

Advent & Christmas Happenings at CJ

Advent wreaths adorn classrooms, offices and even the windows of the Ludlow Street entrance outside the Welcome Center as an outward sign of hope, peace, joy and love.

These signs are ever-present; not just within the hallways, but also in the hearts and actions of those at CJ. And in the days ahead, a myriad of events and activities will help reflect the light of this sentiment on all who partake.

VIDEO: 12 Days of #GivingTuesday

Chaminade Julienne is celebrating #GivingTuesday on Dec. 2.

#GivingTuesday is a global movement, first initiated in America in 2012, that takes place all over the world on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. This day reminds us to be generous and give back.

“Around the world, #GivingTuesday is a grassroots movement that illustrates the impact we can have when we all pull together,” according to a White House memo from the President. “The investments we make — in both time and funding — can help solve the urgent problems of today and will make the next generation stronger.”
