2015 Back-to-School Guide

There are a few short weeks left before the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year. To help prepare for this exciting time, below are the Top 10 items parents and students need to know.

1. New Student Orientation and First Day of School
Orientation for students new to CJ is Wednesday, August 12. All students will report for classes on Thursday, August 13. Check the School Calendar and Community Events pages often for things like Out of Uniform and Block Days as well as events for the whole family such as Meet the Eagles Night on August 19.

2. Student Handbook
The 2015-2016 Student Handbook is available for download and/or print online. Consent forms, found on pages 53 and 54, should be signed and returned to OSS by August 21. For forms not found in the handbook (Emergency Medical, Immunization Record, Physical, etc.) check out the Health Clinic page.

3. Uniform Guidelines
There were minor changes made to this year's uniform guidelines and dress codes. Tops must be purchased from one of two vendors: Appleheart or Casual Image. Parents may also shop for gently used uniforms August 4-6 at CJ and Eagle fans can purchase spirit items at any time from the Official Online Spirit Store.

4. Chromebooks
Again this year, all students will use a Chromebook as part of the Connected Classroom program. New students will receive their Chromebooks during the New Student Meeting/Partners in Mission sessions on July 23, 30 and August 4. As outlined in the School Supply List, all students must carry their CJ issued Chromebook and a set of earbuds (headphones) every day.

5. Student Parking
There are changes to student parking this year. Gravel Lot D will no longer be in use. Student parking passes will only be sold for either Emmanuel or Washington lots (as outlined in the map to the right or click here.) Seniors may purchase a parking pass on August 4 and 5 between 10 a.m . - 2 p.m. and parking passes for all other students will be sold August 6 and 7 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. All parking passes will be sold in the Office of Student Services

6. Lunch Menu and Payment
Cafeteria services are operated by W.G. Grinders. Monthly lunch menus are posted online and typically include an "Entree of the Day," four to five sandwiches, soups and salads, plus healthy and vegetarian options. Items range in price from $.75 to 3.50; a meal with drink typically costs about $5. Students may pay with cash or parents can load funds onto their child’s Student ID by creating an account with SPS EZpay.

7. Summer Honors and AP Coursework
Students who had summer honors and AP coursework will need to turn in their homework the first day of school. Coursework requirements are listed online under the Academics section.

8. Activity Interest Form
There are dozens of opportunities for students and parents alike to become more involved in the educational experience at CJ. Students can fill out the activity interest form to learn more about athletic and performing arts programs. Our website also has details about the various CJ student clubs. Parents who want to meet new friends and lend a helping hand should look into joining the Blue Green Club and/or the CJ PoPS.
