2016 Back-to-School Guide

The 2016-2017 school year will begin in less than a month. Below are the Top 10 items parents and students need to know before coming to school this fall.

1. New Student Orientation and First Day of School
Students new to CJ will have orientation on Wednesday, August 17.  All students will report for classes on Thursday, August 18. Frequently check the School Calendar page on the school website for information such as Block days and Out of Uniform days.

2. Student Handbook
The 2016-2017 Handbook is available here. The consent form, found on page 29, needs to be turned into the Office of Student Services by August 26. For forms not found in the handbook (Emergency Medical, Immunization Record, Physical, etc.) check out the Health Clinic page.

3. Uniform Guidelines
There were a few changes made to this year's uniform guidelines and dress codes. Rugby shirts are no longer in the dress code and all polos must be white, royal blue, or kelly green and bought through a CJ vendor. Logos at Work is a new vendor this year in addition to Appleheart and Casual Image. Parents also have the opportunity to purchase uniform tops from Logos at Work online. Gently used uniforms will be available for purchase at CJ on August 9, 10 and 11 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in Room 126.

4. Chromebooks
All students will use a Chromebook as part of the Connected Classroom program. New students will receive their Chromebooks during the New Student Meeting/Partners in Mission session. The last session will be Tuesday, August 9 at 6:30 p.m. As outlined in the School Supply List, all students must have their CJ issued Chromebook and a set of earbuds (headphones) every day.

5. Student Parking
Student parking passes will be sold for either Lot D or Lot E as outlined in the campus school day parking map.
Seniors may purchase a parking pass on August 9 and 10 between 10 a.m . - 2 p.m. and parking passes for all other students will be sold August 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. All parking passes will be sold in the Office of Student Services

6. Lunch Menu and Payment
Cafeteria services are operated by W.G. Grinders. Lunch menus are posted online and typically include an "Entree of the Day," four to five sandwiches, soups and salads, plus healthy and vegetarian options. Items range in price from $.75 to 3.50; a meal with drink typically costs about $5. Students may pay with cash or parents can load funds onto their child’s Student ID by creating an account with SPS EZpay. Parents who load any amount onto their student's lunch account between now and August 19 will receive an additional 10% bonus.

7. Activity Interest Form
Students and parents are encouraged to become more involved in the educational experience at CJ. Students can fill out the activity interest form to learn more about athletic and performing arts programs and can also get involved in one of the school's many clubs. Parents who want to meet new friends and lend a helping hand should look into joining the Blue Green Club and/or the CJ PoPS.

8. Most Requested Information
On the bottom right-hand side of the homepage of cjeagles.org parents can find most requested information such as contact information for the guidance office, office of student services, details about the Senior Capstone Project, and the change of address form.

9. Stay Informed
Parents who have not done so already should subscribe to the CJ electronic mailing list to receive the latest news and information in their inbox. Weekly newsletters full of useful information are distributed on a weekly (Parent Weekly), monthly (Eagle Bytes) and as-needed basis. Parents who have not been receiving these distributions and would like to sign-up should email Kary Ellen Berger, communications coordinator. Parents and students can also connect with CJ on social media. Find the Eagles on FacebookTwitter, Instagram and YouTube.

10. Roger Glass Stadium - Home of the Chaminade Julienne Eagles
Students and parents are invited to take part in the opening of Roger Glass Stadium - Home of the Chaminade Julienne Eagles through several activities. Meet the Eagles on Thursday, August 18, Soccer Day at CJ on Saturday, August 20 and the first home football game on Friday, August 26 are some of the events scheduled as part of the grand-opening celebrations. More details about the grand opening of Roger Glass Stadium can be found here.
General admission football tickets will only be sold online this year. Students may still purchase a football ticket at school. Student tickets are $4 and general admission tickets are $6. The pre-sale for general admission football tickets will be available to CJ parents and alumni beginning Monday, August 8. Parents who are currently receiving Parent Weekly will receive an electronic newsletter with a link to the online ticket sales. The public sale of general admission tickets will begin on Wednesday, August 10 with a link on the homepage of cjeagles.org. That link will also have details regarding parking during football games.
