Performing Arts Center Announced at Open House

On Sunday, November 1, Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School announced plans to renovate and expand the school’s performing arts rehearsal and performance spaces.  The $1 million project, planned to open in the fall of 2016, will double the school’s performing arts rehearsal and classroom spaces, and rejuvenate the current 740 seat auditorium originally constructed in 1951.

“Because of the generosity of those who wish to inspire and bring out the very best in our students performing on stage — as well as on the field — we will raise the curtain to the new and improved CJ auditorium and performing arts spaces next fall,” said Dan Meixner, president. “When complete, we will have a million dollar performing arts center worthy of the priceless performances of our students.”

The new development is funded through LIFT — Leading in Faith Today, a $20 million initiative that brought to life the CJ STEMM Center, the Eagle Tennis Center, the renovation of Building One learning spaces and Mary, Our Lady of Victory Gym — all opened within the last four years. The capital investment in the performing arts program is in addition to the construction of Roger Glass Stadium — Home of the Eagles. This new athletic complex, which was announced in August 2015, will also debut next fall.

“In January of 2014, we announced the improvements that our community wanted to accomplish through LIFT, a bold initiative that would significantly elevate the teaching and learning experience for our teachers and students,” said Meixner. “It is a tribute to them — our alumni, parents and friends — that this next project is now funded and we can continue with the further development and construction of the performing arts spaces this spring."

"It's an exciting time for performing arts," said Debi Schutt, director of performing arts. "We have been working hard to rebuild the program over the last number of years and we are excited for new spaces to allow the program to thrive."

The announcement of the CJ Performing Arts Center was made during the Fall Open House. The annual event gave students and families a chance to learn more about Chaminade Julienne through guided tours and opportunities to talk with teachers, coaches, and students.
