Service Requirements for CJ Students

Each year students at CJ are challenged to fulfill a service component for their religion classes. Service requirements are documented by individual religion teachers. All student service is tracked on “Helper Helper,” an online service tracking program.

Service Required For Each Grade Level

List of 4 items.

  • Freshman Year

TWO SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL (PER SEMESTER) TOTALING TWO HOURS OF SERVICE EACH SEMESTER

All freshmen are required to participate in two service opportunities per semester during the school year. The usual expectation is that students choose the service sites from the Helper Helper list, though students are permitted to find one service site per semester on their own if they so choose.  For service opportunities NOT listed in Helper Helper, students must fill out an alternative site selection form and receive approval from their religion teachers one week prior to the service event.

Permission forms are required by all outside service organizations.  A link to the forms is posted on Helper Helper and there are also hard copies available in the Ministry & Service office.

The goal for our freshmen is to introduce and expose them to a wide variety of worthwhile service opportunities.  Students are encouraged to sign up as soon as their schedule permits.  Experience has shown that waiting until the final possible month may mean service sites will be unavailable.  Service requirements must be completed in order to receive freshman religion credit.
  • Sophomore Year

All sophomores are required to participate in two service opportunities per semester.

Students should sign up as soon as their schedule permits. Experience has shown that waiting until the final possible month may mean service sites will be unavailable.

In addition to outside service, sophomores are also required to give 1-3 hours of service to CJ per semester. Opportunities for service to CJ include working at the Freshmen Orientation, being a Teacher or Office Aide, working in the Development Office, working at Open House or any other work that is done for CJ.
Combined, both the outside service and service to CJ must total 5 hours each semester.

Service requirements must be completed in order to receive sophomore religion credit.
