Assistant Director of Development

The assistant director of development embodies the development team mission: “We serve to keep the CJ vision a reality.” Working with the director of development of Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School, the assistant director of development designs, implements, and evaluates the school’s major gift, grant and sponsorship programs. This includes direct mail, personal solicitation, telephone solicitation, and strategizes and prepares grant requests and foundations reports. Additionally, the assistant director works with the director of marketing and communications to develop messaging and content for development related publications and communications to lead contributors.

Education and Skill Sets
Required to possess and demonstrate the following:
  • BA or BS in education or in business, marketing, communications, or a related field
  • Five to seven years experience in fundraising, development, or advancement; or commensurate sales or sales management experience
Desired to possess and demonstrate the following:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment
  • Ability to travel for benefactor and/or alumni events held across the country of multi-night and weekends
  • Experience working in a faith-based educational setting
  • Proficient with Microsoft office and Google suite
  • Familiarity with database systems; Raisers Edge preferred
General Responsibilities
As a member of the development office team reporting to the director of development, the assistant director of development is responsible for:
  • Participating in conceptualization and implementation of the annual development program plan with main focus on major gift and planned gift program;
  • Preparing and managing a program budget to meet established goals;
  • Participating in meetings convened by the Director of Development;
  • Completing an annual professional development/evaluation plan;
  • Participating in school-wide events, alumni events on evenings or weekends;
  • Participating in project teams as requested by the Director of Development involving administration, faculty, and staff; and
  • Collaborating with all development team members to ensure team goals are achieved or surpassed.
Specific Position Responsibilities
Major Gift 
The assistant director of development is responsible for the following major gift activities of the school:
  • Participate in the development of and takes primary responsibility for management and implementation of the major gift program plan.
  • Participate in the preparation of major gift materials, including brochures, letterhead, and other resources.
  • Formulate direct mail, telephone, and personal visit strategies and constituent segments.
  • Assume primary responsibility for the cultivation and direct solicitation of specified Eagle Council as major gift prospects.
Major Grant Management
The assistant director of development is responsible for the following major grant request activities of the school:
  •  Formulate, draft, and coordinate major grant requests, acknowledgments, and reports to the United States Province of the Society of Mary and the Ohio Province of the Society of Mary.
  • Formulate, draft, and coordinate major grant requests, acknowledgments, and reports to specified local and national foundations.
  • Research and recommend other major grant opportunities for consideration as part of the annual program plan.
Sponsorship Program Management
The assistant director of development is responsible for the Sponsorship Program activities of the school:
  • Research and cultivate sponsorship opportunities for consideration as part of the annual and long-term program plan.
  • Supervise the formulation, draft, and coordinate printing of Sponsorship program information packet; and
  • Formulate and coordinate sponsorship program requests, renewals, acknowledgments, and Formulate reports director of development, marketing and business office
